Colorado Music Buzz, September 2006 Issue by J.R. Wolfe (used by permission from the writer) "August is 'Blues Festival' month in Colorado; not a weekend goes by without one or two taking place somewhere in the state. On August 6th, the city of Empire hosted its sixth annual fest at Milton park in a gorgeous setting surrounded by mountains and filled with the smell of tasty barbeque. The atmosphere was that of a picnic for a couple thousand fans, and I arrived toward the end of the gospel music in time to appreciate the sermon by Lynn Butler. Little Mary testified on a cover of Saffire's 'Bitch with a Bad Attitude' and her own 'If My Heart Had Wings'. She turned the Beatles 'With a Little Help From My Friends' into a slow, bluesy lament, those closed with a traditional gospel medley dedicated to her mother and promised to return next year. Dan Treanor and his band African Wing started their show off with two selections from their current album 'Mercy'; from 'African Soul' and Tumbling Blues.' The band was on fire as Rex Peoples sang wtih soul and Randy Mrugala and Dan Treanor traded riffs like never before on covers of 'Smoke Stack Lightening' and 'The Thrill is Gone'. Christine Webb did her thing on 'Chain of Fools' and DJ Mrugala impressed with her original 'Standing in the Shadows'. African Wind made fans for life with their set closer, 'Cut With Dynamite' . . .
