Welcome to the Year of the Blues!

In September of 2002, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution (SR-316), proclaiming the blues as a national historic treasure AND naming 2003 as the Year of the Blues! As Jim Primock (President of the Colorado Blues Society) put it so honestly, us Blues Lovers have ALWAYS known the national treasure part. This official 'Year of the Blues' began on February 1st, 2003. Resolution 316 acknowledges the Blues as an important documentation of African-American culture in the twentieth century, while emphasizing the education of young people on the 'roots' of the music they listen to today. Thanks to the Experience Music Project (EMP) and the Blues Foundation for their hard work in getting this resolution passed. Please visit www.coblues.com OR www.yearoftheblues.org for additional information regarding Resolution 316 and the music events planned to help celebrate our very special year.

Radio Play and the new disc! "Short-Term Blues", the HOT new disc from Little Mary and her Hometown Boogie Kings, is now receiving regular play on KUVO. Thank you to all of Little Mary's friends who called in during KUVO's Winter pledge drive! ALSO, in the Kansas City, Missouri area, additional thanks to KCUR and KKFI for their continued support of Little Mary's music career, and for airing the many songs from "Short-Term Blues"!

**A personal note from Little Mary. "As my long time friends and supporters know, this quarterly newsletter always contains an on-going bulletin of many musical events and adventures. The band (the Hometown Boogie Kings) has never sounded better, the success of our new CD is overwhelming, and there are many good things to celebrate. In the midst of our busy lives, there are people who stand out in our memories, even when the time they have shared is brief. One such person in my life was Roxanne Starrett. Roxanne had a way of making everyone she met feel 'special'. I spent time with her at various music events and festivals; watching her dance to the live music with young children at an outdoor stage, or holding humerous conversations at the local clubs with the many musicians whom she supported. Her sincere love for humanity radiated when you talked to her. Roxanne's spirit will be terribly missed in my life." Roxanne Starrett, Secretary to the Colorado Blues Society, passed away following a brain hemorrage on January 2nd, 2003. Memorial contributions can be made in Roxanne's name to any charity that promotes child or animal welfare, or to the Music Maker Relief Foundation, 4052 Summer Lane, Hillsborough, NC, 27278 (www.musicmaker.org).
